Party size includes only Gearlocs. The Lab Rats count as 1 Gearloc. It includes Gearlocs that are KO'd. Party size does not include companions or temporary allies.
Party size is synonymous with player count (unless players are playing "multi-handed" with multiple Gearlocs).
